Every story starts in sketches, scraps, and second guesses.
This is where those pieces gather — fragments from the world behind the book: rough drafts, hidden jokes, and side stories we still love.
Much like our poetry books and illustrated art, these moments carry their own meaning. Pull up a seat and lift the lid — not everything is polished. Some things are preserved, like a cherished Cup & Poem.
This is where the rough edges live.
Line drafts, lost pages, character sketches, alternate endings—everything that didn’t fit neatly inside the cup and poem.
🕊️ pigeon once wondered:
“What if stories grow roots before they grow wings?”
🪶 Pretty Bird chirped back:
“Then I guess the nest is the first draft of our illustration art in poetry books…”

It all started with a poem and a pen.
Jim wrote the words. Justin illustrates. Jim and I thought of an idea to bring this together and create a coffee table book. Here is Cup and Poem!
Our work is playful, a little poetic, and full of feeling.
Together, we imagined a coffee table book that could
make you laugh, think, and maybe tear up a little too.
This is where art meets story.
Where a doodle becomes a bird,
a scribble becomes a world,
and a poem finds its wings.
🪶 From the Nest
“A line is never just a line.
It might be a wing.
Or a wish.”
